Missing Sports?

By Duff Damos Jul 27, 2020 | 6:00 AM

I gotta admit I’m not a big sports fan but I do know a few people in the broadcast center here that are really in to it. I couldn’t tell you one player from another or who won the Super Bowl last year. I do like watching the occasional baseball game on TV on a hot summer day. When I was a young “Duffer” I would RACE upstairs to our apartment when it was sweltering hot to watch Jack Brickhouse on WGN TV in Chicago. LOVED the Cubs. Every year Ron Santo would make an appearance at the Jewel Food Store across the street from my house. They would always have the Oscar Mayer Weiner mobile there and it would be a great event and chance to get my glove signed. As a kid my walls in my room were COVERED with pictures of all the football greats and I remember watching the games on a Sunday and immediately going outside after the game with my football! I do enjoy watching a Packers game when the weather outside is brisk and it goes well with a relaxing Sunday. So, I guess I’m really not a true sports fan at all but like I mentioned earlier I do know folks that are and they are not happy with the void of sports. What’s your take? Are you miserable without anything? Do the occasional reruns of games from years ago make you happy? If you’re a sports Fan-atic is the fact that they will have cardboard cut-outs in the stand just weird? Corona has totally screwed up everything and sports has taken a BIG hit. Yes, even High School sports is still “iffy” about what’s going to happen. I know adult that don’t even have kids in school that enjoy going to a high school game. If you’re a big sports fan I feel your pain!! This all seems like a dream…or actually more like a nightmare. Keep thinking good thoughts that we can get a handle on the horrible “bug” and get back to some normal at one point this year. 2020 has certainly become the WORST year of my lifetime.
