Drive In Theaters Making A Comeback?

By Duff Damos Jun 29, 2020 | 7:00 AM

Well…we talked about it with you on the air and on the phone last week. Jurassic Park was the number 1 movie in the Country last week. YES…THAT movie! It was shown at multiple drive in theaters across the country. With that our discussion turned to drive in’s that were once in the Northwoods. There was one in Rhinelander. In fact, I think the structure is still there near the hospital. We talked with Dave Imlah and he brought back memories of the Castle Drive In Theater in Minocqua at th old location of our sister station WMQA. It was WWMH back in those days and right non Highway 51 South about 5 miles south of the bridge in Minocqua. What do you think? Would these dinosaur movie outlets become popular again? Technology has changed with LEDs, the audio delivered over an FM signal to your car and of course digital projectors making the experience a little better and more high tech. Who knows…the calls I took were positive to bring back the Drive In! Perfect for social distancing. I even saw that in some of these drive ins out west the have car hops that come out and take your order for popcorn and goodies for the car. HOW COOL! Who knows! Just like vinyl records making a comeback who knows? The drive in theater could be a thing of the future! We’ll see.
